mothwing | Art Recs: SSMM

This is a fairly unorganised collection of really great SSMM pieces I really like, and mostly a

calicogoat fanpost. Some of them are quite old and you've probably seen them all already, I'm also not very articulate in my fondness for these amazing pieces and they deserve a better introduction than my uncoordinated squeeing, but they're all worth checking out.

Scene the first: Duellers

I love the poses the characters have here, and the magic. Especially Severus' defense spell is very nice.

I enjoy this person's Minerva very much, even though she's so very thin. She has the right mixture of hardness and softness that makes this character so compelling to me.

This is a bit busy, but it did grow on me.

Scene the second: Losses

Yes, this is old. And yet, I love it in spite of its simplicity because it's also so uncompromising.

Hogwarts during Severus' year as a headmaster is one of the most interesting setting for fics and art, I find. Severus can't have had many friends that year, but I find it hard to imagine what his former friends and colleagues behaved like towards him during that year. And I for one would not want Minerva as my enemy. Her scathing look and Severus' downcast expression certainly show here that it can't be easy.

Even though the lineart was already awe-inspiring, the colour really brings out the magic and the playful poke stays as charming as ever. HapticMimesis also has a beautiful piece with Eileen I can only recommend.

Scene the Third: Lovers

I'm a big fan of calicogoat and her delightfully tousled Minerva and Severus. Her Minerva reminds me a lot of Camicazi in Cressida Cowell's books in this one, it's something about the huge smirk.

I love the colours she uses and that the two always look like the equals they are in her art - none of that adoring clinging going on in so many other pictures. This sounds weird, but I find it very rarely that het pairings are shown to e on one footing.

Minerva always looks so delightfully confident in her pictures, I love that in her art. Flitwick on Hagrid's arm is a really nice touch, too.

Also noteworthy is ~hellanim's beautiful 12 Pictures from Snape's Life in beautiful monochromes with a dash of red and ~calicogoat's Flight of the Goldfinch which has Minerva and Severus battling a dragon on a flying machine and what could be more awesome than that?
