Given the fact that I disliked reading books about female characters until my late teens because of the abundant and inescapable love plots (after that I realised they were inevitable because female characters Have. To fall. In love.) it's great to see that there are so many female characters who do make the list.

It was hard to pick individual characters from the Discworld series at all! I'd have liked to pick the lot with the possible exception of Rincewind.

I've chosen only childhood favs I could remember the name *g*.
Interesting list, though many names I don't even recognise. I haven't read any Pratchett, though, just being read to the odd quote by my partner.

I have tried, but never found into the novels. But I'm always having too many to-be-read books around, too. They will keep, I suppose ;o).

Which books did you try to read? I started out with the German translation of Interesting Times (Echt zauberhaft) and absolutely hated it, and if it weren't for the fact that I had already bought Wyrd Sisters at that point I doubt I would have ever looked into the series again. In know other people who tried the Witch-series first and didn't get into it until they started reading the Watch series. Also, I doubt that had I started with The Dark Side of the Sun or Carpet People I would have fallen for P'Terry's works as hard as I did.

I can't remember the titles currently, but they were carefully selected by an avid fan. Under other circumstances, I certainly might have continued, but I'm generally not a fantasy reader, and when there is something from another genre beckoning, I'm too easily tempted ;o).
