The Rules:
Don't take too long to think about it.
Fifteen fictional characters (television, films, plays, books, comics) who've influenced you and that will always stick with you. List the first fifteen you can recall in no more than fifteen minutes.

  1. Granny Weatherwax
  2. Minerva McGonagall
  3. Ms Hardbroom (from the Worst Witch series)
  4. Elphaba
  5. Ronja Robbersdaughter
  6. Sherlock Holmes
  7. Hazel (from Watership Down)
  8. Spock
  9. Alfred J. Prufrock
  10. Severus Snape
  11. Brutha (from Small Gods)
  12. Pater Brown
  13. Havelock Vetinari
  14. Dirk Matthies (from Großstadtrevier, a German series about a team of police officers fighting crime in Hamburg's red light district)
  15. Jane Eyre
Given the fact that I disliked reading books about female characters until my late teens because of the abundant and inescapable love plots (after that I realised they were inevitable because female characters Have. To fall. In love.) it's great to see that there are so many female characters who do make the list.

EDIT: characters I can't believe I forgot to mention or wanted to mention but didn't due to space:
  • Agnes Nitt
  • Willow from the Buffyverse
  • Spike
  • Hiccup
  • Atreju
  • Inigo Montoya
  • Indianer Jones (how could I ever forget about you)
  • Han Solo
  • Mrs Marple
  • the Phantom of the Opera
  • Bagheera
  • Katsa
  • Polgara
  • Johnny Maxwell
  • ...

I kept thinking about this after finishing and I can't believe how many of my childhood favourites I forgot. -_-

I've chosen only childhood favs I could remember the name *g*.
Interesting list, though many names I don't even recognise. I haven't read any Pratchett, though, just being read to the odd quote by my partner.

Yeah, there's one or two I left out because I couldn't remember their names.

You haven't??? He's the best author alive! With the best characters! And the funniest parodies! And the best concepts (narrativium = ♥)!

I have tried, but never found into the novels. But I'm always having too many to-be-read books around, too. They will keep, I suppose ;o).

Which books did you try to read? I started out with the German translation of Interesting Times (Echt zauberhaft) and absolutely hated it, and if it weren't for the fact that I had already bought Wyrd Sisters at that point I doubt I would have ever looked into the series again. In know other people who tried the Witch-series first and didn't get into it until they started reading the Watch series. Also, I doubt that had I started with The Dark Side of the Sun or Carpet People I would have fallen for P'Terry's works as hard as I did.

I can't remember the titles currently, but they were carefully selected by an avid fan. Under other circumstances, I certainly might have continued, but I'm generally not a fantasy reader, and when there is something from another genre beckoning, I'm too easily tempted ;o).
